Sash Jammer Additional Window Security

Upgrade Window Security (Additional Window Locks)

Many burglaries occur through a window. We have seen forced entry through windows on a regular basis in the course of our work as a locksmith in Solihull and Birmingham. What can you do to prevent this?  How do I know if I need more window security?

Household windows can generally be categorized as low, medium or high security depending on the type, number and movement of their locking points. The type of window lock and security level provided will vary greatly between properties and even within a single house where window installations and building extensions have been carried out separately and not all at once. You can send pictures to us, or ask for a survey in person, to have our professional opinion on approximately how strong your windows could be expected to be in the event of an attack.

Low and medium security levels will benefit from additional window locks such as the lockable sash jammer. These provide a powerful extra protection against all but the heaviest types of tools and even then would take considerable time to break through – allowing you to detect an attack and call the police.

Sash Jammers are usually installed in pairs, or sometimes more on the largest or most vulnerable windows. Where the window’s sub-structure is metal then they are fixed in with screws. Although quick to fix into plastic with screws, it is recommended where possible to rivet-fix where the window structure is entirely plastic. This takes a bit longer but is well worth it.

We know that thieves, at least in this area, prefer to force open a door or window than to smash through glass. Using lock snapping technique on a door or prying tools upon a window is greatly preferred for speed and quietness. Smashing windows is actually quite hard work, very noisy and will leave many shards of razor sharp glass that will injure a thief or snag their clothing, thereby leaving DNA evidence behind. It is strongly recommended to use window additional security measures where applicable.
